Whaam!Recently I was invited by the Tate Gallery Trust for a gala dinner to mark the opening of the latest Roy Lichtenstein’s exhibiton: „A Retrospective”. During this pleasant evening, the curator of the exhibition told us a lot of interesting facts concerning the artist’s work.Since I came too late and did not have the time to visit the exhibition before the dinner, I was given a special tour very late at night. It’s amazing to explore the exhibition all by yourself and only with the company of one of  your favorite artists,  in one of the largest museums in the world. This is the first full-scale retrospective of works by Roy Lichtenstein. It brings together 125 paintings and sculptures. Lichtenstein was renowned for his works based on comic strips, advertising imagery and colored with his signature hand-painted Benday dots. You can admire here such great pieces like Whaam and Look Mickey.  The exhibition shows Lichtenstein’s various experimentations and the different directions he chose in his work including  sculptures in ceramic and brass, selection of previously unseen drawings, collages and works of paper.Pop has recently become a very fashionable and famous comic motif in Lichtenstein’s pieces. It can also be seen in the fashion collections of Philip Lima and Lanvin. If you are a fan of pop art You should definitely make a stop at Tate Modern  21st February - Monday 27th May 2013
